What to wear for Mountains in Winter

Mountain expeditions during winter are among the most challenging sporting challenges. Conditions often reach extreme levels, threatening not only comfort but also the safety of your adventures.

To prevent hypothermia or even frostbite, we recommend two reliable sets of first-layer thermal clothing for winter mountain explorations.

NEXT TO SKIN LAYER

From slightly above freezing temperatures to as low as minus ten degrees, the most functional first-layer clothing, or simply thermal underwear, is our THERMO collection.
The most effective thermal insulation and warming properties are provided by  intelligent microfibers:
NILIT HEAT (men’s version, yarn based on coffee charcoal with natural thermal insulation properties).
NILIT INNERGY (yarn with a mineral additive that converts generated heat into infrared rays that penetrate deep into the muscles, warming the body).
They are very effective on the ski slope, during snowboarding or any other activity requiring intense physical effort in low temperatures. The very high lever of moisture transfer ensures comfort during extreme climbing or winter trail.

To complete your outfit for low temperatures or high altitudes, especially for those using a helmet, it is essential to use MERINO WOOL balaclava oe beanie hat.
BRUBECK SNOW FORCE socks with a high merino wool content and highly functional man-made yarns will keep your feet warm and dry in any snow boots.

MERINO WOOL MID LAYER

Next important layer is MID LAYER – which is best with Mrerino wool as it keeps the warmth and ensures high breathability. This high-density wool thermal underwear, with a weight of 284 g/m², provides protection in extreme cold conditions.
We have tested the ranges in extremely cold climates by professionals – during polar missions at both poles, in the coldest marathons in the world, and on the highest and most inaccessible peaks on Earth – from North America’s White Lady Denali to winter ascents in the Pamir Mountains and Karakoram itself. Other extreme expeditions include:
Other polar climate researchers, extreme runners, mountaineers, and very experienced travelers used them, too. In the winter season of 2017/18, we were partners of the most challenging high-altitude expedition – the National Winter Expedition to K2, whose participants used both recommended sets here – in exactly the same product configuration.
BRUBECK EXTREME WOOL set, made from the finest merino wool with a fiber thickness of 16.5 microns, has the best thermal insulation properties among naturally sourced materials. Merino wool has very high hygroscopic properties, capable of absorbing moisture up to 33% of its own weight, which means that after absorbing excess moisture from the skin, it stores it and keeps it at a safe distance from the body surface, slowing down the cooling of the body.

THE NATIONAL K2 2017/2018 WINTER EXPEDITION TEAM  RECOMMENDS:

BRUBECK WINTER ACTIVITY SETS

The team of very experienced mountaineers, led by Krzysztof Wielicki, had the opportunity to test Brubeck products during high-altitude trekking in very dangerous conditions encountered during extremely difficult climbs in sub-zero temperatures with hurricane-force winds and constant frostbite threats. Both sets performed perfectly and were the basis of the mountaineers’ clothing both during the hard challenges on the mountain and during the weeks spent in low temperatures at the base camp.
