NATIONAL WINTER EXPEDITION TO K2

BRUBECK WAS THE OFFICIAL TECHNICAL PARTNER OF THE NATIONAL WINTER EXPEDITION TO K2 2017/2018

In winter of 2017/18, the PZA team, led by Krzysztof Wielicki, attempted for the first time in history to conquer the world’s second-highest peak, K2. After 80 days of battling the mountain, they had to end the expedition before achieving their goal. The reasons were heavy snowfall, the inability to acclimatize the team at 7200 meters above sea level, avalanche risk, and poor weather forecasts. They made history as the first team in the world to undertake this challenge, of which we are proud. The entire team was equipped with clothing from the Brubeck Thermo and Extreme Wool collections, which performed excellently and provided them with proper protection during the most challenging moments of the expedition.

Here’s a brief summary of the first interview in the series with Krzysztof Wielicki, a participant in the expedition, discussing his belief in the success of the mission:

Krzysztof Wielicki shared his thoughts on the challenges and hopes for the expedition. He emphasized the importance of mental strength and teamwork in overcoming the harsh conditions of K2. Despite the setbacks, Wielicki remained optimistic and believed in the team’s ability to achieve their goal. He highlighted the crucial role of proper equipment and preparation, which were essential for their safety and performance during the climb.

He also mentioned that the team’s collective experience was a significant factor in their ability to push forward despite the difficulties they faced.

Here’s a brief summary of the third interview in the series with Piotr Snopczyński, the base camp manager, discussing the organization of technical support and logistical backing for the climbers:

Piotr Snopczyński highlighted the critical role of meticulous planning and organization in ensuring the success of the expedition. He explained how the team managed the logistics, including the transportation of equipment, setting up the base camp, and ensuring a steady supply of necessary resources. Snopczyński emphasized the importance of having a well-coordinated support system to address any technical issues and provide immediate assistance to the climbers. His insights underscored that behind every successful climb, there is a robust and efficient support structure that handles the complexities of high-altitude expeditions.

Here’s a brief summary of the fourth interview in the series with Marek Chmielarski, a member of the expedition, discussing the atmosphere at the base camp and what it’s like to be on the mountain:

Marek Chmielarski shared insights into the daily life at the base camp, describing it as a place of camaraderie and mutual support. He talked about the importance of maintaining a positive atmosphere to keep morale high among the team members. Chmielarski also detailed the challenges of living on the mountain, including dealing with extreme weather conditions and the physical and mental toll it takes. Despite these hardships, he emphasized the strong bond formed among the climbers and the sense of purpose that kept them motivated.

And the fifth interview in the series with Artur Małek, a member of the expedition, discussing his experiences battling winter conditions in high mountains and the lessons he learned from his mountaineering mentors:

BRUBECK K2 SET

What thermal active underwear does the team attempting to conquer K2 in winter use?

The climbers use sets from the BRUBECK THERMO collection, which are excellent for intensive work in the camp and transporting the entire expedition caravan, activities that require constant high-level physical activity.

Sets from the BRUBECK EXTREME WOOL collection help maintain warmth during extremely cold nights and during climbing and acclimatization at increasingly higher altitudes.

To enhance the functionality of the woolen underwear and support moisture transport efficiency, the climbers use BRUBECK Base Layer shirts and boxers in 3D technology.

The set is completed with a BRUBECK merino wool balaclava and BRUBECK SNOW FORCE socks made from the same material.

BRUBECK®K2 Collection
